Wrinkle Treatment in Wading River, NY

      Botox Wading River NY

For all of us, wrinkles develop over time around the mouth, eyes and forehead. This comes, in part, from repeated facial muscle contractions that occur when we squint, frown or smile - as well as a combination of factors related to aging, skin damage or your specific skin elasticity or thickness.

For common conditions like crow's feet, frown lines, jowls, lower face drooping or sagging, and wrinkles, Balanced Health & Wellness offers injections of Botox, Daxxify and Jeuveau to effectively erase lines and wrinkles. Imagine what these age-defying injections could do for you.

What do Botox, Daxxify and Jeuveau have in common?

What these three treatments have in common is that they are all injectable neurotoxins used to reduce the appearance of lines and wrinkles. All three contain botulinum toxin type A, a protein that temporarily relaxes muscles.

Botulinum toxin type A is a neurological depressant that works to block nerve impulses that control facial muscles. Muscles are temporarily paralyzed from the injections, and the reduced movement and increased muscle relaxation help to erase the appearance of moderate to severe lines and wrinkles - even hard-to-treat glabellar or 11 lines.

These wrinkle relaxing botulinum toxin type A injections – aka “neurotoxins” - are the most common non-invasive aesthetic procedure in the U.S. While they are commonly called “Botox,” there are actually several different FDA-approved neurotoxins, including Botox, Dysport, Jeuveau, Xeomin and Daxxify.

Each of these injectable neurotoxin treatments, however, has unique differentiators.

      Botox: The Original

      Botox logo

Like the others, Botox is a neuromodulator created from the Clostridium botulinum toxin type A – called Botox, for short. No matter which company manufactures it, people often refer to injectables in this class as Botox – similar to how we call tissues Kleenex even if they’re not Kleenex brand. That’s because Botox has been around for a while now, and its brand has become a household name.

While most people are familiar with the term Botox, few really understand its history or exactly what it does. It’s best known for treating wrinkles, but Botox is an injectable medication used today to treat many conditions, from aging and sun exposure to TMJ and migraines.

First discovered by a German doctor in 1920, it was not approved for therapeutic medical use until 1989 – for eye conditions. It was then acquired by Allergan and developed under the Botox Cosmetics division of the company. The name Botox stuck. Allergan and Botox Cosmetics were acquired by Abbvie in 2020, but the Botulinum toxin injection is now manufactured and distributed by multiple producers. It is now a staple in the aesthetics industry.

      2019: Jeuveau Enters the Market

      Jeuveau logo

Used to temporarily improve the appearance of frown lines and wrinkles, Jeuveau is structurally similar to Botox but is processed differently during manufacturing, which some believe may contribute to improved performance. Released in 2019, Jeuveau is a prescription medication utilized primarily to improve the appearance of moderate to severe glabellar lines (frown lines).

It is a neurotoxin, similar to Botox, that works by blocking the release of acetylcholine, a neurotransmitter that causes muscle contractions. Jeuveau injections start working within two to three days, and results last approximately three to six months, on par with Botox.

      2022: Introducing Daxxify

Another neurotoxin, Daxxify is a type of aesthetic injectable that includes Botox, Dysport, Jeuveau, and Xeomin. One of the Botulinum toxin type A (BoNTA) injectables used to treat wrinkles and lines on the face, Daxxify is also used to treat cervical dystonia and its painful, involuntary neck muscle contractions.

Daxxify is made by Revance Therapeutics, Inc., and is marketed as the first and only peptide-formulated neuromodulator with long-lasting results. Daxxify contains peptides, and some studies suggest that Daxxify's effects last about two months longer than Botox.

Jeuveau may offer quicker onset times, while Daxxify may provide longer-lasting effects. If you prefer fewer treatments, Daxxify may be the best option due to its duration of six to nine months as compared to the three-to-six-month duration with Botox and Jeuveau.

      How They Work

Basically, neurotoxins like Botox, Daxxify and Jeuveau block the nerve impulses that cause facial muscle contractions, relaxing these muscles.

These neuromodulators are injected into various areas of the body to block nerve endings from absorbing certain molecules. They work by binding to the nerve terminals and preventing the release of acetylcholine, effectively stopping muscle activity, thereby relaxing muscles, improving blood flow, and temporarily preventing muscles from moving.

These injections also interfere with processes that control pain and inflammation by acting on the brain cells that transmit pain signals.

What are they used to treat today?

These neurotoxins are prescribed for a wide variety of aesthetic and therapeutic uses, both cosmetic and medical conditions, including:

      • Wrinkles
      • Overactive bladder
      • Neck contracture
      • Underarm sweating (severe)
      • TMJ
      • Spasticity

Botox is FDA approved for many of these conditions, whereas some of these conditions may be off label uses for Daxxify and Jeuveau.

Benefits of Botox, Daxxify and Jeuveau

      FAQs

      Is this treatment method safe?

Facial injections are less invasive than cosmetic surgery, but they are still not without risk. Botox Injections have an excellent safety profile, and the treatment has been available for decades. However, if you have certain allergies (e.g., to stainless steel), have hemostatic (bleeding) dysfunction, anemia, cancer, or blood clotting disorders, all Injections may be contraindicated. If you have sores, irritated skin in the treatment area, or open wounds, treatment will be delayed until these skin issues are resolved. Also, if you are pregnant or nursing or taking certain medications, we will also need to delay treatment.

We will discuss all of your safety concerns at our first session, after looking at your medical history and any specific risk factors in your case, before proceeding with treatment.

How long does one treatment take?

Treatments generally require about half an hour, but your initial consultation may take longer as we will require extra time to complete your medical history.

What can I expect from my consultation?

Before your first session, we always take a medical history and review any medications, supplements or herbal medications you’re taking, as well as assess any particular medical needs you may have.

These neurotoxin injections will be administered in our offices. At Balanced Health & Wellness, we offer traditional injection techniques that deliver the solution directly into the muscle. During your session, the selected injection site will be thoroughly cleaned and disinfected, then a small needle will be used to inject your neurotoxin of choice into your treatment area. The process can be repeated if you have multiple areas that need to be treated.

Are there any before or after care instructions?

No anesthesia is necessary prior to these injections. To minimize bruising and bleeding during and after your procedure, for at least a week prior to your injection, it’s important to avoid the following:

      • Blood thinners
      • Aspirin or anti-inflammatories (NSAIDs like Advil, Aleve, etc.)
      • Fish oil
      • St. John’s Wart
      • Vitamin E
      • Green tea

No aftercare is required. It is, however, recommended that you avoid laying down or engaging in excessive physical activity for a few hours after treatment. It is also recommended that you avoid rubbing or massaging the area treated for at least four hours after injections - and do not apply makeup. Otherwise, there is no downtime, and you can return to normal daily activities immediately after treatment.

How can I maintain the results of my treatment?

Maintenance treatments are required to continue seeing results from these injections. With each injection, we are training your muscles to relax. Over time, these injections may also slim muscles. Injections in your jaw, for example, may eventually create a narrower lower face and sleeker jawline.

The longevity of your effects and the number of treatments required will depend upon the specific neurotoxin selected, the specific condition being treated and how long you’ve had the condition.

      Are the Injections painful?

Most people experience little to no discomfort.

      Are there any side effects?

Possible side effects include temporary soreness at the injection site, redness, swelling, bruising or headaches, all of which typically resolve within hours or days at most. Many patients experience no side effects at all. These Injections have minimal side effects, in general.

How long does it take to see effects?

Results vary among individuals, as well as the neurotoxin selected. You may see a difference immediately after treatment or within the first one to four days. Results generally optimize within 14 days and can continue to improve for even longer.

      How long do results last?

A single injection can bring results that last several months, but results can vary, depending on the type of treatment and the area treated, as well as other factors like dosage, metabolism, muscle learning over time - and whether it’s your first treatment.

Is this treatment right for me?

At your initial consultation, we will take a full medical history and determine together with you if you would be a good candidate for these types of injections.
